Riding the Waves to Publication

So excited to announce the publication of Waves of Resilience: 12 Principles for Interabled Love—our first published book!

Our In-Person Book Launch Celebration will take place on Sunday, October 11, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. PDT at the Encinitas Public Library. The event will be facilitated by our friend Joan Kling, a life and leadership coach and conference speaker. Reserve your tickets through Eventbrite.

If you can’t join us in person, please attend our Virtual Book Launch on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. PDT. Register for the virtual launch here. After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom meeting information.

Joan and I met earlier this week to hash out the details of the in-person event. Although my poetry has appeared in several anthologies, this is my first experience publishing and launching a full-length book. I’m discovering just how much goes into it. There are publicity materials to create, library logistics to coordinate, refreshments to arrange, books to sell and sign, and countless small decisions that somehow find their way onto the to-do list.

Brad and I decided early on that we wanted to keep the celebration small and as simple as possible. We aren’t working with sponsors or event planners. That choice reflects the way we try to live—authentically, personally, and without unnecessary fuss. Of course, keeping things simple doesn’t always mean there is less to do. Because I have taken on most of the event planning, I sometimes find myself wondering how I will manage it all.

Joan is helping me remember one of the lessons I still have to practice: asking for help. She reminded me that people often appreciate the opportunity to contribute and feel part of something meaningful. That can be difficult for those of us who are accustomed to being capable, independent, and the ones who help others. Receiving support requires its own kind of openness. It means loosening our grip, trusting other people, and allowing them to share in the experience. In many ways, that lesson reflects the heart of Waves of Resilience. Love and resilience are not built by doing everything alone. They grow through honesty, willingness, connection, and the courage to let others show up for us.

As the launch approaches, I’m trying to embrace all of it: the excitement, the nerves, the long list of details, and the generosity of those who want to help us celebrate. Invitations will go out this week and we hope you’ll join us virtually on October 9 or in person at the Encinitas Public Library on October 11 as we welcome Waves of Resilience into the world.
